Pay and Display Parking to be introduced in Saggart and Newcastle?

Local Fine Gael Senator Frances Fitzgerald has lodged her objections to South Dublin County Council's proposals to introduce pay and display parking in the villages of Saggart and Newcastle.

"When I first heard about these proposals I organsied public meetings in both Newcastle and Saggart to discuss the issue with local residents and traders. The general consensus was that there is no immediate need implement disk parking in either of these villages," explained Senator Frances Fitzgerald.

"Newcastle, despite all the development in recent years, still does not have a public car park. This needs to be priority here. Until residents are provided with proper, safe car parking facilities they should not be expected to being paying for parking," continued Frances Fitzgerald.

"At the moment parking is not an issue in Saggart. I do worry that when the LUAS is completed it may well become an issue but until then disk parking should not be a priority," concluded Frances Fitzgerald.
