Youth Unemployment Continuing to Rise in Clondalkin and Lucan - Fitzgerald

Massive jump of 6,000 young people on the dole-Latest Live Register Figures show Government policy on youth unemployment is failing

According to local Fine Gael Senator Frances Fitzgerald the latest figures from the Live Register are a further indication the Fianna Fail/ Green government is failing the next generation.

Statistics released this week show that the number of young jobseekers under 25 years of age has jumped 6,026 from 85,620 to 91,646 nationally.

“These figures clearly show how this Government is failing the young people of Lucan and Clondalkin. It is so frustrating to see smart, educated and qualified young people who want to be working queue outside the Clondlakin Social Welfare Office,” continued Frances Fitzgerald.

“Apprentices, qualified tradesmen, teachers, nurses, clerical staff – I’ve spoken to so many people who want to work but are not being given any opportunities. Instead, month on month, we are seeing a steady increase of people on our live register,” continued Frances Fitzgerald.

“Fine Gael has published our jobs plan. Where is the governments?,” concluded Senator Fitzgerald.
