Clondalkin Rugby Players Mingle with Brian O’Driscoll and the lads

Senator Frances Fitzgerald was one of the hundreds of locals who converged on Clondlakin Rugby Club last week to sneak a peak at some of Ireland’s best known rugby players as they trained in Clondalkin.

The training session showed the commitment that the Leinster Team have to supporters and fans in Clondalkin. Brian O’Driscoll, Gordon D’Arcy, Shane Horgan, Rob Kearney and Johnny Sexton were among the well known faces signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans afterwards.

Local Fine Gael Senator Frances Fitzgerald described the event as a “fantastic initiative”.

“Today was a fantastic occasion for Clondalkin. The rugby club here in Kingswood is a real showcase for local talent. Teams of boys and girls, seniors and juniors battle it out with rivals on this pitch and it’s great motivation for them to see rugby hero’s train on their very own ground,” said Senator Frances Fitzgerald.

“I was delighted catch up with Cian Healy. My son Robert was on his rugby team when they brought home the Leinster Cup so it was great to see him out on the pitch today," said Senator Frances Fitzgerald.

An estimated 1,000 people turned up to watch the squad train. After the training session the players spent an hour meeting and greeting fans and posing for pictures with supporters.

“It was fantastic to see so many people come out in support of the event and sneak a peek at the talented stars. With bouncy castles to entertain the kids and hot tea on offer in the clubhouse it made for a real social occasion,” continued Frances Fitzgerald.

The idea behind the event was to give something back to the local clubs and fans that support the Leinster Team and to boost the squads morale before their friendly with WASPS.

“The Clondalkin Rugby Club put a lot of effort into the day and it was a real treat for the players to rub shoulders with the stars after their training session,” explained Senator Fitzgerald.
