Fitzgerald calls for urgent payment of Back to School Allowance for eligible Lucan and Clondalkin families

HSE figures show that almost 20% of eligible families in Dublin have yet to receive the Back to School Allowance payment

Lucan and Clondalkin Senator Frances Fitzgerald has urged the HSE and Government to ensure that all families in the locality who qualify for the Back to School Allowance receive their payment promptly.

Senator Fitzgerald made her comments as HSE figures showed that 18% of families eligible for the allowance in Dublin are still awaiting payment despite the fact that the new school year will begin soon.

“It is absolutely vital that familes who qualify for this Back to School Allowance receive their payment from the HSE as a matter of urgency. The new school year is an expensive time for families in Lucan and Clondalkin. School books, uniforms and other associated costs can create serious financial pressure on local families,” said Senator Fitzgerald.

“Now more than ever, in these difficult economic times the prompt payment of the Back to School Allowance is essential. It is never fair or just to ask families to wait for weeks and weeks to receive this payment. The allowance is needed now and the HSE and the Government must get their act together to ensure payments are made swiftly to families in Lucan, Clondalkin and across Dublin Mid-West,” stated Senator Fitzgerald.
