Fitzgerald Congratulates Students on Leaving Cert Results

Local Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald T.D, has congratulated students on their Leaving Cert results and paid tribute to local schools, teachers and families on all the effort that goes into preparing students for the exams.
“I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to all our local students on their Leaving Cert results. From the feedback I have received, it seems there has been some very good results in our community this year but I would encourage all students regardless of their results to look at their options. There is something out there for everybody and there are many ways of achieving your goals and getting to where you want to,” said Minister Fitzgerald.

“As Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, I know the stress that students face coming up to exams. I still remember the nerve-wrecking feeling of collecting my Leaving Cert results and I am sure students and their parents are relieved that the results are now out,” stated Minister Fitzgerald.
“There are certainly issues and trends arising from the Leaving Cert results. The high failure rate in maths and the low uptake of higher level maths in particular are repeated in this year’s results. The Department of Education are working to reverse this trend and almost 2,000 students sat exams in a new Maths syllabus this June which is hoped will raise Maths grades” said Fitzgerald.
Minister Fitzgerald concluded by wishing students the best of luck for next week’s CAO offers and encouraging those with concerns to talk to their schools or call the dedicated helpline at 1800 265 165.
