Fitzgerald welcomes funding for Lucan to Newcastle Road Project & 12th Lock Masterplan

Dublin Mid- West TD and Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald has welcomed the allocation of €800,000 for the Lucan to Newcastle Road Project by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar and news that a Masterplan for the 12th Lock area of Lucan will be conducted.

“I am glad that more funding has been released for this project by my Cabinet colleague, Minister Varadker. There is an obvious need for road improvements in this area and this funding will facilitate preparation of the Environmental Impact Study and the preliminary planning of this project,” said Minister Fitzgerald.

“At last weeks Lucan Area Committee Meeting my colleague Cllr. William Lavelle secured a commitment that a Masterplan for the 12th Lock area will be conducted simultaneously so that this road upgrade will take account of the environmental and heritage sensitivities of the area and possible future expansion needs of Lucan Sarsfield GAA Club and Lucan Pitch and Putt Club,” continued Minister Fitzgerald.

The allocation of €800,000 was announced by Minister Varadkar as part of the Restoration Improvement Grant of €2.186 million for South County Dublin. Speaking at the announcement Minister Fitzgerald recognised the importance of continued support for vital projects and highlighted that the funding for Restoration Improvement Grants in South County Dublin has been increased by €228,000 in comparison to the 2011 budget. “Road improvement and restoration is essential, not just for greater safety on our roads but for creating jobs in a sector hard hit by the fall in the construction industry,” stated Fitzgerald.

“The extra monies provided for the Lucan to Newcastle project will be used to respond to the legitimate concerns that there are over the impact of road works on the area,”concluded Minister Fitzgerald.
