Fitzgerald welcomes expansion of Clondalkin Microsoft facility

Local TD Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Children & Youth Affairs, has today (3 December) welcomed the decision by Microsoft to expand their Clondalkin data centre, creating 20 new jobs at the facility and up to 380 construction jobs.

Minister Fitzgerald said: “the news of this €170m expansion is excellent news for the area, and comes hot on the heels of the news that Digital Realty is also building a mega data centre in Clondalkin. With this expansion, Microsoft’s total investment in this facility will be almost €600 million – a clear vote of confidence in the Irish economy as a global hub for this growing sector, and a further vote of confidence in Clondalkin as a key pillar in Microsoft Ireland’s architecture.

“There are some 30 giant data centres in Dublin – several of them in Clondalkin. These are the engine rooms of global online commerce and form a vital part of the worldwide cloud computing network that the world’s internet users increasingly rely upon.

“I commend Minister Bruton for continuing to successfully target this key area of job creation, and I will be following the development of this data centre closely to ensure that the best possible impact of its expansion will be felt in the Clondalkin area”.
