Fitzgerald commends Council for “taking action on Saggart Arms eyesore”

Local TD Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Children & Youth Affairs, has commended South Dublin Council for “serving notice on the owners of the Saggart Arms that they will enter the derelict site in the coming days, following my representations”.

She said: “I have been working for many years with local residents to find a suitable way to address the eyesore that is the Saggart Arms site. It has blighted the lovely village for too long. I am pleased that the Council has taken heed of my ongoing representations and taken this sensible decision.

“The site of the former pub has been deemed to be in a derelict condition by the County Architect and, accordingly, at the end of February notice was served on the owners, informing them of the Council’s intention to enter the site, on the Derelict Sites Register. A period of 14 days is open to the owners to respond.

“I will continue to work with the Council to ensure that the best possible outcome is achieved for Saggart residents, who have put up with this situation for far too long. I thank all those constituents who worked with me on this issue, and I look forward to working with them again in the coming months as our options become clearer”.
