Fitzgerald welcomes school improvement funding

4 schools in Clondalkin & Palmerstown included in first round of successful applicants

Local TD Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Children & Youth Affairs, has welcomed today’s Government announcement that schools in Clondalkin and Palmerstown will be able to undertake school improvements this summer.

She said:

“Almost €36 million nationwide is being provided by the Government under the first round of funding for the Summer Works Scheme 2014. I am pleased that Phobailscoil Iosolde in Palmerstown has been targeted for mechanical improvements, while St Peter Apostle Senior NS (Neilstown), Neillstown NS and Our Lady Queen Of Apostles (Clonburris) have been approved for electrical work.

“As many as 98,000 students in primary and second level schools nationwide will benefit as a result of the funding we are making available today under the Summer Works Scheme.

“Today’s announcement forms an important part of this Government's ongoing drive to improve facilities in schools throughout the country.

“These works will be undertaken in schools during the summer holiday months so the disruption to the education of our children will be minimal.

“These projects should also stimulate economic activity by supporting construction jobs in the local economy,” Minister Fitzgerald concluded.
