Fitzgerald welcomes 260 new tech jobs at Citywest

Local TD Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Justice & Equality, has today (27th May) welcomed the announcement by software company SAP that 260 new jobs will be created at its Citywest campus.

She said: “SAP is one of the world's leading providers of enterprise software, and these 60 highly skilled roles in predictive analytics, as well as 200 new tech support roles in the company’s business suite and cloud support teams, are to be warmly welcomed.

“Dublin Mid-West has fast become a global hub for the processing and analysis of Big Data, and these new SAP operations are geared towards enabling businesses to take advantage of the rapid developments in this sector. In other words, the company is developing leading new technologies to give enterprises the tools to make Big Data work for them.

“The tech sector is at the forefront of the Irish economic recovery and this type of high-skilled job is essential for attracting graduates into our economy. The benefits for the local economy will also be significant.

“There are some 30 giant data centres in Dublin – several of them in Dublin Mid-West. These are the engine rooms of global online commerce and form a vital part of the worldwide cloud computing network that the world’s internet users increasingly rely upon.

“I commend Minister Bruton for continuing to successfully target this key area of job creation, and I will be following this new development closely to ensure that its impact is felt in the best possible way in the local area”.
