Local TD Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Justice & Equality, has welcomed confirmation from the Office of Public Works (OPW) that the construction schedule for a new school building at St. Andrew’s NS Lucan will be completed in time for the 2015 school year.

She said:

“I have worked closely in recent months with St. Andrew’s staff and management, in particular the Chair of the Board of Management Reverend Scott Peoples, to ensure that progress is made on this vital project.

"I am pleased to confirm that the contract for construction of this school was placed by the OPW on 10 July 2014, and the main contractor, Townmore Construction, commenced enabling works on the site last week".

She added that “it should be noted that a major ESB line traverses the site where the school will be located.  The ESB is to divert this line away from the school site in the coming weeks.  The main contractors will commence building works proper as soon as the line has been diverted, and they estimate that the project will be completed in approximately ten months.  The most important confirmation from the OPW is their assurance that the school will be ready for occupation for the 2015 school year.

“I will continue to work closely with the school, the OPW and the ESB to ensure that this project proceeds in a timely and efficient manner. This new building with additional places is vital for the Lucan area, and like many parents, I will be pleased to see its completion in the coming year”.
