Local TD Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Justice & Equality, has hailed this week’s “amazing performance by the Republic of Ireland Women's Under 19 team in reaching the semi-finals of the 2014 UEFA European Women's U19 Championship tournament, including the players from Peamount United in Newcastle”.

She said:

“In reaching the UEFA semi-finals, these ladies have done their country proud. I’d like to extend special congratulations to the Peamount Utd players Brooke Dunne, Jessica Gargan, Chloe Mustaki and Hayley Nolan, who have been great ambassadors for our area.

“I have been in contact with Peamount to congratulate them on their extraordinary contribution to this national success. Clubs in my area place a great emphasis on developing facilities for female players, and it’s just great to see their efforts bearing fruit.

“I look forward to meeting these ladies in the near future to congratulate them personally on their achievements. They are great role models for girls in our area, and nationally, highlighting the benefits of participating in team sports. #COYGIG!”
