Minister Fitzgerald lays wreath at Collins/Griffith Commemoration

Local TD Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Justice & Equality, participated in the 92nd Annual Collins/Griffith Commemoration in Glasnevin Cemetery on Sunday, honouring the memory of General Michael Collins by laying a wreath at his grave.

In the presence of members of the Defence Forces, the 92nd Annual Commemoration of General Michael Collins & President Arthur Griffith took place at their burial places in Glasnevin Cemetery on Sunday 17th August.

A large crowd attended the ceremony, and an oration was given thereafter in the Milestone Gallery in Glasnevin Cemetery Museum by Dr. David Murphy, lecturer in Military History, NUI Maynooth.

Minister Fitzgerald expressed her pride “to have participated in this moving ceremony of respectful patriotism. It was great to see such a large crowd in attendance, and as always the members of the Irish Defence Forces did their country credit. Congratulations to the Collins/Griffith Commemoration Committee for organising this fine occasion, in particular to my local Fine Gael colleague Councillor William Lavelle who served as Secretary of the Committee”.
