Fitzgerald welcomes start of new school building work at St Finian’s NS, Newcastle

-    Construction of new school building for St Finian’s NS to begin shortly.
-    Project ready to proceed after a number of planning delays.

Local TD Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Justice & Equality, has welcomed the news that construction of the new school building for St Finian’s NS in Newcastle will begin in the coming weeks.

She said: “I am advised by the Department of Education that a provisional completion date of late May 2015 has been set for this project, which is great news for the school and the Newcastle community.

“A number of complications arose in the planning process for this project, which led to a series of unfortunate delays in the construction of this much-needed new building. I worked closely with school staff and management, in particular Principal Eamonn Scully, to ensure that these challenges were addressed and resolved as quickly as possible in the best interests of students and families.

“Having been in regular contact with successive Education Ministers and indeed many officials at the Department of Education, I am very pleased that we have now received confirmation that the project can proceed.

“I will continue to work closely with the school, the Department of Education and the Council to ensure that this project proceeds according to plan. This new building providing additional school places is vital for the area, and like many parents, I will be pleased to see its completion in the coming year”.
