Palmerstown Pink Walk - October 18th

Local TD Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Justice & Equality, is encouraging locals to sign up for a fun and worthwhile event to raise money for cancer research - the Palmerstown Pink Walk!

She said: "I am pleased to invite everyone to this excellent event raising funds for the Marie Keating Foundation’s important cancer research and awareness work. This fun and active fundraiser is open to walkers of all ages and will start and finish at Palmerstown Community Centre on Saturday, October 18th at 11 a.m.

"The 5k walk will be a leisurely affair, starting and finishing at the Community Centre and taking in the lovely surroundings of Waterstown Park. All registered participants will be provided with a stylish pink teeshirt and wristband from the Marie Keating Foundation.

"At the start of the walk, participants will be given a pink balloon and encouraged to write the name of a family member or loved one who has died from or cancer or is suffering from the disease. Then, at the half-way point in the park, everyone will gather together to release the balloons into the heavens, in a ceremony of commemoration and respect.

"When we get back to the Community Centre, there will be tea, coffee and refreshments available, and the Marie Keating Foundation mobile unit will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.

"Finally, all participants are invited to bring along an old bra to the event. For every bra donated to the Marie Keating Foundation during the month of October, Roche Products (Ireland) Ltd are kindly donating a euro to the Foundation to support the fight against breast cancer. I will be donating an old bra, and I encourage all walkers, friends and family members to do so to.

"There will be lots of information, goodies, refreshments and fun on the day. Don’t forget to wear pink! For registration details and more info, contact my office on 4577712 or go to www.mariekeating.ie"
