Fitzgerald welcomes Government grant aid for local counselling services

-       Health Lottery funding allocated to  counselling services in Clondalkin and Lucan
-       Beacon of Light (Clondalkin) & Aspen Counselling (Lucan) receive grants totalling €21,500.

Local TD Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Justice & Equality, has today (November 28th) welcomed the announcement of Government grant aid for the Beacon of Light counselling centre in Clondalkin and Aspen counselling in Lucan.

She said:

“These centres have provided vital services in our communities for many years, and our area is lucky to have them on our doorstep.

“Today’s announcement of National Lottery Grants from the Department of Health will be a welcome boost to their ongoing work.

“Local awareness of the importance of good mental health has improved greatly in our area in recent years, something we should all be very grateful for. However, this change has also led to a greater strain on local counselling services, as the stigma of seeking outside help has diminished.

“These grants will therefore be a great help to Beacon of Light and Aspen as they go about their critically important work.

“Aspen will put 4,000 Euro funding towards a user-friendly IT system while Beacon of Light, which operates in a residential area, will also benefit from new investment of 17,500 Euro in its premises.

“I will continue to work closely with management and staff at these hubs of community well-being in the coming months and years. Their importance to our area cannot be overstated.”
