Fitzgerald welcomes over €750,000 for sports clubs in Dublin Mid-West

  •  All-weather pitch for Lucan United FC
  • New clubhouse for Round Towers GAA club, Clondalkin
  • Extension to gym for St. Patrick’s GAA club, Palmerstown
  • Pitch developments for Lucan Sarsfields GAA club
  • Athletics track upgrade for Lucan Harriers
  • Funding also for Clondalkin Cricket Club, Bawnogue Boxing Club & Commercials GAA club, Rathcoole
  
Frances Fitzgerald, local TD for and Minister for Justice & Equality, has today warmly welcomed the allocation by Government of over €750,000 in Sports Capital funding to sports clubs in Dublin Mid West.

Minister Fitzgerald stated: “I am delighted to announce the Government has approved Government funding of over €750,000 for eight clubs in Lucan, Clondalkin, Palmerstown and Rathcoole who has all applied for Sports Capital funding.

“I had actively supported our local clubs in their funding applications, including meeting with my colleague Minister for Sports Michael Ring.”


“The facilities to be delivered or upgraded cover GAA, soccer, athletics cricket and boxing and will be of great benefit for our communities. This investment supports and rewards the great spirit of volunteerism that see hundreds of coaches every week supporting thousands of children and young people in sport.”

“I continue to work to support other sports clubs the area and to seek delivery of other community facilities through other funding programmes, including most-importantly a much-needed Swimming Pool for Lucan.”

Details of the allocations include:

All-weather pitch for Lucan United FC
Funding of €150,000 is being provided for an All-Weather facility next to the clubhouse. Planning permission has been granted by an Bord Pleanala, but includes a condition for a parking area which will help address existing local parking problems. This new facility will greatly support the ongoing development of Lucan United and of underage soccer in Lucan.

Pitch developments for Lucan Sarsfields GAA club
Funding of €29,774 is being provided for important pitch developments to support the ongoing development of Gaelic Games in West Dublin’s largest GAA club.

Athletics track upgrade for Lucan Harriers
Funding of €200,000 is being provided to Lucan Harriers Athletics Club for an upgrade of the track in Griffeen Valley Park. The track upgrade will greatly assist in the ongoing development of Lucan Harriers as one of the premier community-based athletics clubs in West Dublin.

Extension/gym for St. Patrick’s GAA club, Palmerstown
Funding of €150,000 is being provided for the extension/gym at the clubhouse

New clubhouse for Round Towers GAA club, Clondalkin
Funding of €150,000 is being provided for development of a new clubhouse.

Clondalkin Cricket Club
Funding of €5,584 is being provided to support the development of the new club.

Bawnogue Boxing Club
Funding of €4,406 is being provided to support the development of the new club.

Commercials GAA club, Rathcoole

Funding of €66,780 is being provided for the development of club facilities.
