Fantastic achievements by local Tidy Towns Groups

Local TD and Tánaiste, Frances Fitzgerald has extended her congratulations to local Tidy Towns Groups who took part in this year's competition.

Commenting on their achievements, Fitzgerald said: “For the last fifty nine years the Tidy Towns competition has brought enormous improvements to our local towns, villages and rural areas.

“Locally the enhancements brought about by our local tidy towns committees give the whole community a lift. Everyone who rolls up their sleeves and helps out in their community voluntar
ily deserves admiration. All groups have delivered visible improvements in our area. Your hard work has made our communities a more vibrant and better place,” said Fitzgerald.

“Congratulations to Lucan Tidy Towns who increased their score by 6 points to 305 points and deservedly were awarded a Bronze Award. Clondalkin Tidy Towns also had a massive increase of 10 points to a total of 281 points this year, while Palmerstown Tidy Towns increased their score by 5 points giving them a total of 256 for the 2017 Awards. Newcastle Tidy Towns has this year again experienced a huge increase in points up to 267 points an increase of 12 points on their 2016 score.

"Special congratulations to Brittas who earned an impressive 250 points on their first year returning to the competition since since the late 1980s. Well done to all community and residents groups who take great care of their areas even when not competing in the Tidy Towns Competition.

“Interest in the competition is at an all-time high, with 870 entrants this year across the country. This competition really shows us the importance of participation. Our local Tidy Towns volunteers in Lucan, Clondalkin, Palmerstown, Newcastle, Saggart, Brittas, and Rathcoole are a credit to our community.

"I encourage anyone who feels strongly about our community and our environment to get involved with Tidy Towns. The work carried out by Tidy Towns groups is so vital, not only in terms of keeping our communities looking beautiful - it helps improve the quality of life of residents. I will continue to support these wonderful groups in any way I can.”
