Fitzgerald calls on young adults in Dublin to apply for free EU rail travel pass
Irish citizens aged 18-20 are being encouraged to apply for a free EU rail travel pass. The EU Commission made 60,000 free rail travel passes available this afternoon as part of its DiscoverEU initiative.
Speaking in the European Parliament in Brussels today as the application process went live, MEP Fitzgerald said, “This is a truly wonderful opportunity for young adults in Dublin and across Ireland to discover Europe, visit historic landmarks, experience different languages, cuisines and cultures.”
“DiscoverEU enables, a young person, to develop vital life skills, such as independence, confidence, and openness to other cultures.”
“Thousands of European and Irish citizens have had such a positive experience travelling by rail across Europe for many years and these free passes can be used at any stage between the 1st March 2022 to 28th February 2023 as part of the European Year of the Youth (2022).
“Furthermore, this initiative underlines the benefits of EU membership and the importance of the freedom of movement of people across our Union”
“I encourage all Irish (and European) 18–20 year-old citizens to apply online now at https://europa.eu/youth/discovereu_en before the closing date of Tuesday, 26th October 2021 at 11:00 (GMT).
MEP Fitzgerald finished by wishing ‘all applicants the very best of luck’.
